Speeding in London — how it actually works
Officer-issued speeding tickets in London come from two different enforcement bodies. The provincial freeways — Highway 401 running east-west south of the city and Highway 402 heading west toward Sarnia — are patrolled by the OPP, typically using radar and lidar. Municipal roads are the territory of London Police Service: Wonderland Road, Wharncliffe Road, Highbury Avenue, and Veterans Memorial Parkway all see steady enforcement. Speeding is a Part I offence: the officer issues a ticket with a set fine, and you can pay it, request an Early Resolution meeting with the prosecutor, or set the matter down for trial at the London court. For an officer-issued speeding ticket, the practical defence work is: request disclosure, review the officer's notes and the speed-measuring device (radar, lidar, or pacing) calibration and training records, and decide whether an Early Resolution reduction — often to a lower speed band with fewer demerit points — is a better outcome than trial.
